In the brilliant season 4 the Walking Dead you may remember a certain
malevolent character playing chess, it was with this exact style of the Isle of
Lewis chess Set. Here i even add the eye-patch on the White King.
The colours for the set are Ebony V Ivory. if you would like it sans eye patch

Arguably one of the most famous of the recovered chess sets. The originals
were discovered buried on the Isle of Lewis by a farmer in 1831 although the
exact nature of their discovery is as shrouded in tales and theories as their
reason for being there. Carved for the most part from walrus tusk the set is
thought to have been made in the 12th century and shows not only a level of
skill and artistry but a unique understanding of character. Most likely of
Norwegian origin the 78 pieces 67 of which are in the British museum and 11 of
which are in the Museum of Scotland give us several incomplete sets with
different queens, kings, rooks etc these are representations of some of those
pieces.

The one seen in Walking Dead has the Warder Rook, with the shield by his side.
but as it works thematically you can substitute the Shield Biter as the Rook a
representation of the Viking Beserker ( a missed opportunity for the show i
believe) The 4th photo shows both options.
In the show the set is also done with Pawn 1 the scroll Pawn but it would also
work great with the Little Warrior Pawn you can see both options in the final
photo

The set is Made to order and takes around 4 weeks from casting to completion.
it can be a wee bit swifter depending on timing and workload. Creation times
can get longer in the busy season especially mid September on if you have a
time crunch or a specific date just message and i can give you solid
confirmation.

This listing includes All 32 pieces to make a full set of chessmen. Boards are
not included,

Each piece is Cold-cast by hand using Tufstone a polymer modified gypsum
cement, then painted, glazed and felt bottoms attached.
This set requires a board with at least a 2" squares,
The King is 3 5/8" inches tall the Pawns are 1.1 5/8" 2. 2 " 3. 2"

I make each piece as strong as possible handled correctly they will last a
lifetime but will break if dropped on a concrete floor, for instance.

The set is shipped with each piece individually bubble wrapped and laid on a
bed of larger bubbles and packing peanuts.
