This board is of a batch of 3 made in 2022 (see my other listings for
variations) . It is made from pine and beech wood, with a bio resin inlay of
pressed and preserved Fern and wild flower sections.
This board was a true labour of love and I’m very proud of how it turned out
as it was one of the more difficult boards that I have worked on.
It is a large heavy board measuring 38x38 cm and weighs 1337 grams, the outer
board is decorated with sycamore leaves that have been attached with Britetone
sealer and is slightly dimensional so the board must be handled and stored with
some care to prevent the ferns from being chipped, especially in the first few
weeks as it takes 30 days to achieve maximum hardness and protection.
It is important to note that as with all things in nature; the leaves and
flowers will change colour over time. Each leaf ages in a completely unique
way, some turn a deep sepia, some a faded pastel, some even turn in to a nebula
of different hues. This process can begin over months or years depending on how
the board is stored, to delay the change in colours: keep away from UV light
and humidity.
This board is imperfect owing to irregularities in the base board and resin
surface and some small bubbles caught in the lower resin layer, This lends to a
particularly handmade style and does not effect the functionality of the board.
It includes hand sliced Birch branches that have been alternately stained and
sealed, then lined with soft underlay to protect the board surface from
scratches.
